FPC’s Children’s Ministries provides love, lessons, fun and support for children from birth through Fifth Grade.
Children’s Sunday School, 10:00-10:45
First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville (FPC) is a church where children are welcomed and loved! FPC’s Children’s Ministry partners with parents in their children’s faith development by EMBRACING…the children in Christ’s love, by EQUIPPING…the children through the teaching of Scripture and Christian values, and by EMPOWERING…the children to make Christ centered decisions and to reflect His love everywhere.
FPC’s Children’s Ministry is committed to helping children (birth through fifth-grade) experience the love of Jesus Christ through their teachers and caregivers and to developing their personal knowledge and love of our Lord Jesus Christ through prayer, praise, fellowship, service, music and education in a fun, enthusiastic environment.
Our regular Children’s Ministry programs include Sunday school, Children’s Church, Wednesday night programs, and Vacation Bible School. Our children’s Sunday school and Children’s Church provide a nurturing environment for our children to grow in their faith. Classes are designed to further the spirituality of all age groups and are filled with Christian-based games, crafts, music,
storytelling, and drama. WOW (Weekly On Wednesdays) is our Wednesday-night program which allows the children to strengthen their faith and friendships through our children’s choirs and WOW KIDS program—children learn more about God in an exciting interactive environment. Children also learn to do God’s work through service projects which help them realize ways they can give back to the community. And, Vacation Bible School offers a chance for the children connect with one another and with other kids from the community. It provides an opportunity for the children to grow closer to God and learn just how “wild” He is about them in a fun, summertime atmosphere.
Children in Worship
WORSHIP BAGS: Four years olds through fifth grade children:
Children are full of energy, curiosity and excitement. These are wonderful qualities that create a desire to learn and experience new things. We have created WORSHIP BAGS for these ages in order to help them understand what is happening in worship. These bags include paper to write or draw on, pictures relevant to the day’s worship theme to color, and other activities for the day. There is also a WORSHIP EDUCATION sheet in the Worship bag that identifies different parts of worship, and helps children understand what we are doing, and why. Children may either sit with their families, or there are several adults in the front pews who sit with them and help them follow the service.
In addition to our regular programs, the Children’s Ministry offers fun activities and special events throughout the year. Special Events such as our Lenten Festival, Easter Egg Hunt, pictures with Saint Nick, Advent Event; are all designed to make learning about God exciting!
Kids Night Out (KNO), which generally occurs the second Friday of each month, is an evening of fun for children of all ages. KNO provides an opportunity for parents to enjoy a date-night, knowing their children are safe and well cared for. Each KNO includes dinner, has a theme around which games and a craft are planned and enjoyed by the kids. After the fun, the children have snack and enjoy a restful movie. Children through 5th grade are welcome with a reservation. Cost: $10/child or a $20 family rate. From 6 pm – 10 pm.
Terrific Tuesdays is another of our activities designed to keep the children connected through the summer months. While the younger children enjoy camp at the church, the elementary-aged children go on a fun-filled outing in the community. Children kindergarten through 5th grade are welcome to participate with a reservation. 2017 Summer Dates/Times: June 27 & July 11, 18, 25 from 10 am – 3 pm; Cost: $10/child. Pickup & drop off at Swetenburg Hall.
FPC’s Children’s Ministry provides a plethora of opportunities to involve children in fun, Christ-centered activities, which ultimately help parents guide the children in their faith journey.
