The Adult Ministry Team is a group of members of the church who meet monthly to plan and support events for the Adult members of the church. Groups or events which fall under the jurisdiction of the team are Adult Sunday School Classes, Adult WOW Programs, Educational Trips and Travel, Day (EAGLE) Trips, Montreat Adult Retreat, Women’s Spring Retreat, Men’s Retreat, Small Group Book and Bible Studies, Adult Game Night.

Adult Sunday School Classes
First Presbyterian has a very active Sunday school program and would love to have you join us. Below is a listing of the ongoing groups who gather each Sunday morning:
- Discovery Conference Room
The Discovery Class is an introduction class for new and prospective members. The class studies such topics as “What Do Presbyterians Believe?”, “What is the Mission of First Presbyterian Church?”, and “How Can I Get Involved in First Presbyterian Church?” The class is led by Betty White and the Laity Team. The class runs for nine weeks and repeats periodically throughout the year.
- Young & Restless Also in Cabin 1
Wonderful for younger adults and parents with young children. Led by Reverend Shon Peppers.
- Twenty to Life Room SH503
This class studies a variety of topics in depth, using both group discussion and lectures. This is a group for those who enjoy tackling controversial issues and who enjoy a stimulating exchange of ideas. Consisting of both couples and singles, the class welcomes persons of all ages to attend. The class is led by Edward Simmons and Mardi Morris.
- Rocks of All Ages Parlor
This class is based on the study of the biblical passages found in the weekly sermons. The class format is discussion oriented and Bible study directed. This group consists of all ages of adults, both couples and singles, and is led by Jim Robison.
- Mere Christianity Room M303
This class uses a round table/discussion style of studying the Bible and current issues. A vital aspect of this class is its outreach ministry, within the congregation and in the community. All ages, both singles and couples, are welcome. The class is led by Mary Carden, Roscoe McMillan, Marshall Pennington.
- G.I.F.T. (Growing in Faith Together) Room SH501
Members of the G.I.F.T. Class (Grow In Faith Together) participate in a discussion based class led by various members. All ages, both singles and couples, are welcome. The class is led by Kerry Zottnick.
- B.A.S.I.C. (Brothers And Sisters In Christ) Room SH502
B.A.S.I.C. do an in-depth study of the Bible. The class is not only interested in gaining accurate biblical knowledge but in growing spiritually and learning a Christian life style. The class has a lively interest in world evangelization with an annual budget of approximately $17,500. The atmosphere is that of a large sharing group. The class is led by Jack Spencer.
WOW – Weekly on Wednesday
From early September to early May, one of the most important times at FPC is Wednesday evening when we gather to participate in the Weekly on Wednesday programs, classes, choir rehearsals, children’s activities and, of course, food and fellowship!

EAGLE is an adult educational, non-denominational enrichment program, sponsored by First Presbyterian Church located in Gainesville, Georgia. The day trips include exploring museums and art galleries, garden tours, plays and concerts, and other similar outings.
Montreat Adult Conference is held in the fall each year at Montreat, North Carolina. Each year a different theme is chosen. Staff clergy and guest clergy lead topic related to biblical themes related to our spiritual lives and current faith issues. We enjoy the spiritual learning, as well as the fall scenery, music and singing, food and fellowship, puzzles and games.
Women’s Spring Retreat, our annual weekend gathering of women of all ages, focuses on a theme that is relevant to our lives and is spiritually nourishing. This spring’s retreat theme, “Garden Getaway, Where Women Walk with God” will be enhanced by exploring scripture and engaging through multi-sensory activities and crafts, celebrating the beauty and bounty in the natural world around us.

Game Night is the first Friday of the month, 7:00-9:00, in Swetenburg Hall. Thirty to forty adults gather to play board games and card games, such as Bridge and Hearts. All adults are welcome. There is no childcare for this event.
Educational Trips and Travel are usually offered annually. They have included tours celebrating the Protestant Reformation and our Presbyterian Heritage. There are a few spaces available for our upcoming April tour of Israel. Call the church office if you are interested, 770.532.0136.
